For Fast Service:

Mandatory Documentation with all transactions

  • Valid Georgia driver’s license
  • Completed and signed – MV-1 form (Title Application)
  • Proof of Ownership –
    • Original, valid out-of-state title
    • Manufacturer’s statement of origin (required for a new vehicle that has never been issued a title); or
    • Registration from a non-title state or country (if your vehicle is a 1986 or newer and currently registered in a state or country that does not issue titles for this type and/or year model vehicle.)
  • If you have a loan or lease on your motor vehicle –
    • Submit your registration certificate with a completed and signed Form T-17 (Statement of Title Held by Lienholder)
    • The county processing your application will contact your financial institution or leasing company by mail requesting the submission of your out-of-state title for the issuance of a Georgia title.
  • Emissions inspection (if applicable)
  • Proof of Insurance
  • Taxes – Subject to Title Ad Valorem Tax (TAVT), Annual Motor Vehicle Ad Valorem Tax, or Georgia Sales and Use Tax.
  • South Jersey Auto Tags Power of Attorney to sign additional paperwork on behalf of the customer

Dealership Requirements

  • Power of attorney from the customer to the dealership
  • Power of attorney form the dealership to South Jersey Auto Tags
  • MV-1 Form (Title Application)
  • Filled out and signed Title with Reassignment if applicable
  • Lein information (if applicable)
  • Emissions inspection (if applicable)
  • Customer’s proof of insurance
  • Copy of buyer & co-buyer’s license front and back
  • Social Security number of buyer & co-buyer

The county processing your application will contact your financial institution or leasing company by mail requesting the submission of your out-of-state title for the issuance of a Georgia title. The Georgia title, when issued, will be electronically transmitted or mailed to the first lienholder or security interest holder at the address shown on your application.

If your vehicle is not financed but is leased, the Georgia title, when issued, will be mailed to the vehicle’s legal owner, the leasing company.

If your vehicle is not financed or leased, the title will be mailed to you, the vehicle owner. The title application must be completed before you can register your vehicle in Georgia.
If your vehicle is a 1997 – 2018 model year gasoline-powered car or light-duty truck (8,500 pounds gross vehicle weight rating or less) registered in Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry, Paulding or Rockdale County, it must be emissions tested.  The three most recent model year vehicles are exempt from emissions testing each year. Vehicles that are 25 model years or older are exempt from emissions testing.
